The studies of decorative arts at the Venice's Academy of Arts played an important role in Michela Urban's artistic education. Her works are based on the research of a new technique; day after day such studies marked her way through the world of decorative arts. The geometrical shapes of the mosaic floors in the Venetian palaces, the Renaissance textiles and frescoes and William Morris' wallpapers are considered to be the starting points in the development of her career. Her work looks like "real paintings" because the square, considered to be a perfect shape, is widely used by her with different dimensions. The bearing material that she uses are wooden panels; she doesn't use any frames because they are already an integral part of her works. Her work boasts and displays an unprecedented and extraordinary technique; they are easily recognised but they have never been created before. Her style is clear: she blends precision with gestural expressiveness, and classical simplicity with contemporary marks. The comb-like streaks and the overlapping colors make the whole work vibrate while the rigorous geometrical shapes and the colors are highlighted by the wood, which shows up through a number of streaks.
Michela Urban, born in Treviso, works with energy and passion in her atelier which lies in the old center of her native town, a place full of harmony and color where it is possible to enjoy a permanent exhibition in constant progress.
